ZAGBA: Visit an Organic Farm and Volunteer
ZAGBA is proud to announce an opportunity for its
members to give back to their communities. On Saturday, September 25th, ZAGBA
has scheduled a visit
to Gaining Ground, a volunteer based organic farm that donates all of their
fresh food to area meal programs and food pantries. Based in historic
Concord, Massachusetts,
Gaining Ground raises and distributes approximately 20,000 pounds of produce
each growing season. ZAGBA members will be volunteering at this farm and will do
the activities as instructed by the farm staff.
Volunteering at Gaining Ground offers:
* a chance to engage in meaningful work
* knowledge of where food comes from and how it grows
* a chance to see a variety of plant and animal life, and
* a change of scene from your usual environment.
Garden volunteers grow seedlings, and plant, mulch, water, weed, harvest, wash,
and prepare vegetables and fruit for distribution. They also learn about organic
gardening, issues of hunger and homelessness, local history and environment, and
the basics of agriculture. No gardening experience is needed.
The work involved can be performed by people of all ages, and you will NOT be
asked to operate any farm equipment. You can find very useful information on the
Gaining Ground web site:

Please make sure to read their FAQ at:

While working at Gaining Ground there are inherent
risks. Farm staff will make every reasonable effort to emphasize safe working
habits. You understand and accept these risks and will hold ZAGBA, Gaining
Ground and the Town of Concord
harmless and not
responsible for any and all injuries suffered in the course of
volunteering.
This volunteer opportunity is limited to 16 individuals. ZAGBA will accept
volunteers on a first come first serve basis. Volunteering opportunities are
open to individuals 14 and older. All children 16 and under must be accompanied
by an adult. In case we have additional vacancies, ZAGBA will gladly allow
children 8-14 as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
Please RSVP by September 15th.
